COMPUTER SCIENCE LABORATORY
730 Commonwealth Avenue
Boston University
Boston, Massachusetts

The relocation of Boston University’s main computer science lab to 730 Commonwealth Avenue is an example of Beacon Architectural Associates’ experience designing organizationally complex spaces for a variety of educational functions. This project included a ninety-person lab and forty-person lecture room divided by a versatile help center. The lighting was designed to provide even illumination to each computer terminal, and the existing concrete ceiling was refinished to reflect light from the pendant mounting fixtures. Mechanical equipment is contained within the acoustical ceiling, which also defines the common circulation paths.
