LEOMINSTER PUBLIC LIBRARY
Leominster, Massachusetts

The existing Leominster Public Library, founded in 1856, occupies a 1910 Carnegie style building with a modern addition built to the rear. The site is a narrow lot and has little space for expansion. The design removes the addition and creates a major addition to the rear of the original building. It presents a new face and entrance to Pearl Street, with a linear concourse linking the historic and new entrances. The main level concourse houses the children's library, a café, and an auditorium. Two upper levels house reference, young adults, stacks, the historic collection, and administration. The appearance of the addition will take cues from the existing 1910 building, using rusticated buff brick, windows  with historic profiles, and a mansard roof. Construction is due to be completed in the fall of 2006.
